Ranchi: A woman constable posted at the Khunti Mahila police station has become the subject of admiration because of her strong commitment to responsibilities as a cop and mother.
Constable Mukti Hissa Purti (31) discharges her duties both as a policewoman and mother with equal aplomb and with a smile on her face.
With her six-month-old boy strapped on her with a piece of cloth, Purti renders her services like recording complaints of women and keeping watch over the accused women at the police station where she is posted.
Notably, Purty, who is a constable of the 2017 batch, is also the sole bread earner of her family of seven, including her three children, husband and in-laws. Her husband John Mundu is currently unemployed.
“Taking care of the children and performing my professional duty are equally important for me. I cannot let either suffer. I am grateful to my family and seniors at work for their support. My husband occasionally visits my place of work to manage the child,” she said.
A few days ago, when tension gripped the Khunti town, Purty was on duty to restore the law and order. The officer-in-charge of Mahila police station, Dular Mani, said despite the family responsibilities, Purty is doing her job well.
District president of Police Association and former OC of Mahila police station, Rajesh Prasad Rajak, said, “Purty symbolises women of Jharkhand who carry children on their back while performing economic activities like farming.”
Moved by her situation, Khunti DC Sashi Ranjan has instructed the SP to ensure that Purty is provided with an accommodation close to her place of posting. “It is a humanitarian gesture by the administration so that she can take care of her family while doing her duty.”
Purty’s home is located in Murhu, which is around 14 km from her workplace.
