Fans can now sign in relief as Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 on Steam will not require Battle.net to play the game.

When Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 was announced to be available on Steam, many fans anticipated that it would have the same gimmick as other titles published by companies that have their own launchers. The game would execute another launcher after the game is first launched on the Steam platform. This seems to be not the case at all with this new information provided by Twitter user CharlieIntel.

The Battle.net launcher will not be running together with Steam’s, but there will be another requirement in order to play the game. Players will instead have to register on the official Activision website to get their Activision ID. At least there is no other launcher this time, only an account.

Aside from the Activision ID, the Steam version of the game will also ask for the mobile phone number with the Steam account, which will be connected with their Activision ID codes. This is quite similar to other games as well like CS: GO in order to play competitive matches. This was done in order to reduce the number of duplicate accounts and cheaters, which is quite rampant in many Call of Duty multiplayer games.

There are perks to doing this too. By connecting the players’ Steam accounts with their Activision IDS ahead of time, they can get extra pre-order bonuses in Warzone and Vanguard right now. This could happen to other Activision Blizzard games in the future too like Diablo 4.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 launches on October 28, 2022. It will be available on PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
